Social Events: September 2018 to April 2019

Tuesday evening, Sept 25th, Archive Evening:  Once again Alan Woodward presents a nostalgic evening looking back at past times and rambles.  The photographs to be shown record the Club’s history and feature members past and present.  This is always a popular evening.

Tuesday evening, Oct 23rd, Mansion House Restoration:  The Lord Mayor’s residence, the Mansion House has recently undergone extensive restoration.  Richard Pollitt tells the story of the restoration giving details of the new features of the house and reveals the interesting finds during the course of restoring the house to its former glory.

Tuesday, November 27th:  We welcome back Barry Bishop who will present his illustrated talk ‘Island Hopping’, a journey featuring some of the Scottish Isles and the wild life to be found along the way.  Judging by previous presentations, bird and wildlife lovers are in for a treat.

Tuesday, December 11th:  No usual Christmas party this year, instead we welcome Ken Humphries to entertain with ‘Words and Music for Christmas’. Ken is well known in local musical and choral circles, his presentations are very vocal, informative and enjoyable; not to be missed.

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2019:  Early in 2018, Ian Drake presented his talk ‘Now you see it, Now you don’t’, a fascinating look at aspects of York that have disappeared.  Time was against him concluding his talk, so we welcome him back to continue showing us what we have missed.

Tuesday, March 26th:  Lendal Bridge provides one of York’s important crossings of the Ouse. The history of the bridge is revealed by Ivan Martin in this talk about the bridge, whilst Peter Little reviews his endeavours regarding the conservation of this historic structure.

Tuesday, April 23rd:  The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust is foremost with its dedicated work to promote habitats to enable our native wildlife to live and thrive.  This evening’s illustrated talk tells us more about the Trust and the sites that it manages.
